Examples of the works we may play are:

Wind Quintets: Danzi Op.56 No 1 & Ligeti Six Bagatelles

                   Sextets:   Mozart Serenade in Eb

           Octets:    Woolfenden: Suite Francaise

Bridge Suite for Strings & Mendelssohn String                                                   Symphonies

It is also very likely there will be opportunities for the wind and strings to play together, in works such as the Martinu, Spohr or Farranc Nonets. The instrumentalists will also join with the choir for some of the pieces they are working on at the end of the course.

Repertoire for the

Berwang International Holiday Music Course 2022

Main Works:
Harmoniemesse in B-flat major by Joseph Haydn, Hon. XXII:14 (1802).

This mass was Haydn's last major work; the prominence of the winds has earned the work its nickname of "Wind Band Mass".  (which may be downloaded free of charge)

Five Flower Songs by Benjamin Britten

Five Flower Songs (1950) were dedicated to Leonard and Dorothy Elmhirst as a silver-wedding present, and appropriately celebrated the couple’s love of botany.  By this stage in his career, Britten had already shown himself to be an accomplished setter of English pastoral poetry and his response to the texts by Herrick, Crabbe and Clare is economical, imaginative and assured. (this music is in copyright and may not be reproduced)

Course members are invited to purchase their own copies of the music, but it will also be available on loan in Berwang for a small charge.

Audio Files will be available in due course to aid individual preparation.

Other music, which will be provided at a nominal cost, will include part-songs and madrigals, as well as some light-hearted arrangements of popular music. Full details will be uploaded to the website in due course.

Mendelssohn String Symphony No.6 in E Flat Major

Bridge - Suite for Strings
