The 55th Berwang International Music Holiday 15-29 August 2020
Course Director: Tim Brown
Whilst in Berwang instrumentalists and singers will experience the joy of making music whilst striving for excellence by combining intensive music-making with a holiday in the beautiful Austrian Tyrol.
All musical and holiday activities are conducted in English.
The main work for 2020 will be decided in the summer of 2019. Examples of works we have performed in the past include:
2018 - Haydn: Nelson Mass
2016 - Beethoven: Mass in C
2014 - Jan Zach: Mass
2012 - Dvorak: Mass in D
All groups will study a variety of music from different periods and in different styles.
Players and singers of all standards are welcome, but to get the most out of the course you need to have at least some experience of singing in choirs, or playing in orchestras and/or ensembles. Individuals and pre-arranged groups are both welcome. Course members are invited to bring music of their own choice, although all music for formal concerts will be provided.
In addition to the main works to be studied by the choir will also sing partsongs, madrigals etc. and there will be some opportunities for solo singing.
The strings will frequently work together as a string orchestra and sometimes break into smaller groups from trios to octets. There will also be opportunities to play chamber music with piano and/or wind.
The wind will work in a variety of groupings including opportunities to work with the strings and/or with a pianist.
Wind and Strings
The wind and strings will join together to form the chamber orchestra, to explore orchestral repertoire and to work with the choir.
Those who would like to come to Berwang, but not take part in the music sessions, are very welcome to join us as listeners. You will be able to join in all the social activities of the course and come to listen to our concerts. You are also welcome to listen to the music sessions.
