16th – 30th August 2008  (48th Year)

Course Director: Kerry Camden*

Choir Tutor: Trevor Barr

Chamber Music* Tutor: Nick Dowding

*JUN08: As many of you will already know, Kerry Camden (Course and Wind Director) has recently undergone surgery, which has been 100% successful and from which he has now fully recovered, as those of you who have recently been tutored or conducted by him will have seen!

However, partly for insurance reasons and partly because he needs to be available for another procedure imminently**, it is very unlikely that Kerry will be able to attend BHMC this year.  Nevertheless, he is still acting as Course Director, and will be assisted in Berwang by the course tutors, Nick Dowding and Trevor Barr.  If Kerry cannot be present in Berwang ^^, then we shall combine the wind and string sections into a chamber music group under the direction of Nick.  Nick is a very experienced chamber music specialist and has a great deal to contribute to both wind and string players.

We have a manageable number of wind and string players that should enable the instrumentalists to cover a wider repertoire, both in a variety of ensembles involving various combinations of the instruments and all together.  Hence, the wind and string sections will operate both separately and as a combined group.

**UPDATE AS AT JULY08: In view of the most likely date for this, it has been decided to CANCEL the autumn Bach to Bacchus Weekend (24-27Oct08), to avoid possibly having to replace Kerry as wind tutor.  It is fully expected that all other planned musicholidays will continue as previously advertised.

^^We are delighted to let you know that David Wong, clarinettist, is going to assist Nick Dowding with the chamber ensembles.  Many of you will remember David from his participation in the 2001 BHMC.  Then, he was part of a group including a string quartet from Hong Kong, all students at the Academy for the Performing Arts where Anthony (Kerry's late brother) was Dean.  David has just completed a Masters at the Royal College of Music, London, and is looking forward to returning to Berwang.

The Berwang Holiday Music Course is unique in combining a fascinating holiday in a country of great beauty and stunning mountainous scenery with the attraction of music-making for instrumentalists and singers.  Berwang (1336m) is an enchanting village, set high up in the Austrian Tyrol.  The warmth and friendliness of the local inhabitants together with the variety of leisure activities available make it an ideal setting for a MUSIC HOLIDAY.
