When no music sessions are scheduled, there is time for the other important
component of the Berwang Holiday Music Course: leisure activities and
relaxation. Within a reasonable distance of Berwang
and certainly within easy reach for a 'free day' excursion, there are a variety
of places of great natural beauty or of cultural interest.
These include:
Mountains
and lakes, including Germany's highest mountain, the Zugspitze, alpine gardens,
Heiterwangersee, Plansee, Eibsee and Riessersee:

An early morning
arrival at the 
Eibsee is quite magical, with the early morning mist rising
from this large, naturally-formed mountain lake. There is such peace
and tranquillity here, watched over by the highest mountain in Germany,
the Zugspitze (see photo' at end);

Not far away is a smaller lake
, Riessersee, which is a lovely area for a
walk, with the ever-changing reflections of the surrounding mountains in
its still waters. An excursion can easily take in both these lakes,
with time for a quick coffee before perhaps going on to nearby Garmisch.

Heiterwangersee and
Plansee
are two lakes quite close to Berwang and are linked by a bridge in between
the two. Here is more delightful walking territory; the reflections in the water of
the surrounding towering mountain-tops are stunning. There are also
opportunities for boat trips here and even a drive along the banks of
Plansee offers spectacular scenery at every turn;

alpine garden, reached by cable car at Reutte (10km from Berwang);
and

the Zugspitze (Germany's
highest mountain) by cable car.
